Feature: Asante Kotoko To Bounce Back And Defend Their League Title In A Grand Style

Asante Kotoko unexpectedly got booted out from CAF Champions League. After beating RC Kadiogo in Cotonou, Benin, expectations soared and the Kumasi-based club was tipped to baptize the Burkina Faso club. Inspiration was drawn from the fact that, Asante Kotoko would excel in front of their innumerable home fans.

Last week Sunday could become one of the darkest days in the history of the porcupine warriors. They were not only stunned but also shocked beyond measures. Even when they had another glorious moment of advancing via penalties, they frittered away that enviable route.

Fans had lost hope all week, as many anticipated that their arch rivals Accra Hearts of Oak would storm Kumasi and snatch all three points in Ghana’s Super Clash.

Head coach Zerbo and his henchmen appeared to have taken clue from last week’s tragedy and worked assiduously in what seems loopholes and lacuna in the team. Asante Kotoko proved beyond doubt that they had swallowed pills of lessons from previous Sunday as they took charge of their opponent in dignified manner.

Asante Kotoko looked set to defend their title clinched last season. They are gradually warming up to take opponents on without shivering.

As they hosted Accra Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium this afternoon, Asante Kotoko unleashed a spirited performance to dominate play throughout. They created uncountable chances as expected of a team playing at home and wanting to appease their fans.

Goal scoring and begging chances were carved out by the porcupine warriors but they were lifeless upfront to the extent that Mubarek Yussif, a defender, had to open the scores for them. Subsequent matches are in line to be honored by Asante Kotoko and they could sweep points easily if they repeat today’s splendid displays. As defending champions, they possess the power to either make or unmake themselves in the new season. They could pacify or placate their fans with another silverware having been kicked out of CAF Champions League at an early stage.
