Gary Al-Smith States The 10 Things Ghanaians Learnt During and After The Match Against Brazil

Ghanaian popular sports journalist, Gary Al-Smith has revealed ten vital points that he and Ghanaians noticed during and after the Black Stars’ game with Brazil. The Black Stars of Ghana lost to the Brazilian national team in yesterday’s friendly game. Ghana were defeated by Brazil in a 3-0 score.

Gary Al-Smith who seems to have assessed the game very well has pointed out 10 things he and Ghanaians learnt. Below are the 10 points.

1. OTTO ADDO WAS RIGHT IN ADMITTING FLAWED XI

He opened the press session with “I will start with myself because I made mistakes today.” That was noble. “I learnt a lot more about my players, and picking the next 11 will depend on the performance in the next game.” Gary Al-Smith said that, Otto did well by accepting his mistakes.

He expects him to bench players like Andre Ayew, Afena-Gyan and Odoi. And play Kudus, Inaki and Lamptey in their positions.

2. BOLD CALLS MUST BE MADE

Gary wants Otto Addo to stop his trial-and-error selection and formation. He should be bold and make decisions that will help the team to play better.

3. TEAM GOOD ENOUGH TO PLAY MULTIPLE WAYS

He talked about how great the back three formation was and how it helped the Black Stars. He said, “A Daniel Amartey – Alex Djiku – Salisu back three offers better stability against a side with sharp wingers, as was the case here when Otoo went 5-3-2.”

4. THE THOMAS PARTEY QUESTION

Gary said that, Thomas Partey is not reliable at the moment and other options should be looked at. He added that, Partey is currently fine but cannot be relied on at the moment.

5. KUDUS NEEDS A TEMPER CHECK…

Gary also revealed that, large parts of the second half saw a fascinating duel between Neymar and Ghana’s rising star, Kudus Mohammed, as they snapped at each other’s heels repeatedly. He added that, Mohammed Kudus consistently got angry about Neymar’s tackling and the way he reacted to that could cause the Black Stars a lot. So the technical team should work on that.

6. MOHAMMED KUDUS NEEDS TO PLAY HIGHER

He also added that, “On current form, Kudus has no business operating from deep. Kudus has to play higher up the pitch to influence games more via creating or through goals. He should be playing as a 10, or as a false nine in a free role. If it means benching the older Ayew.”

7. AFENA-GYAN AND INAKI DIFFERENCE

Felix Afena-Gyan did his best but because is inexperienced, Brazil’s defenders took advantage of it and prevented him from playing better. But with Inaki Williams his experience level helped him to perform better than Gyan.

8. WHAT’S THE WOLLACOTT VERDICT?

He also talked about Wallacott’s performance in the game. He couldn’t come clear if Wallacott was responsible for the three goals but he revealed that, he couldn’t talk to or control defenders when there are free kicks and corner kicks.

He concluded that, at the moment, the technical team trust Jojo, and that is not set to change soon.

9. TRANSITIONS AND PRESSING

Gary revealed that, the Brazilian team made it difficult for the Ghanaians to think about what to do with the ball. They were always putting pressure on the Black Stars players. Also immediately Brazil get the ball they move straight to the pole of the Black Stars. The Black Stars also failed to put pressure on Brazil in the first half.

10. AGAINST NICARAGUA, GO BOLD

He wants the Black Stars to be bold and do the things they failed to do against Brazil.
