Rawlings Refused To Talk To Me For 3 Years Because I Endorsed John Mahama

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah joined Evans Mensah on PM Express to discuss his next political agenda and the way forward for the opposition National Democratic Congress. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah who was a former Sports Minister will be aiming for the General Secretary position of the NDC. However, he will have to face a very strong test from another NDC big wig. Mr. Ankrah will have to knock out Dr. Peter Otukonor to get his ambition fulfilled.

Dr. Otukonor is the current Deputy General Secretary and will seek to go a step forward by going for the General Secretary position. Elvis during the interview touted his credentials in the party. He cited how he had to endure a difficult time in 2008 after he announced John Mahama as running mater.

Elvis Afriyie explained that Rawlings refused to talk to him for 3 years just because he had announced John Mahama as running mate to Atta Mills for the 2008 elections. Elvis was then the Deputy Secretary and his announcement certainly didn’t go well with the founder of the party. He added that Rawlings felt he had been deceived and betrayed by some party people with Elvis Afriyie Ankrah one of the culprits. Many did t give John Mahama a chance but he was eventually endorsed by NEC and announced as running mate.

On the character of Rawlings, Elvis praised the late former president and said the only thing he disliked about him was how during his last days he started kotowing to the whims and caprices of President Akufo-Addo.

When asked to select who will win the NDC flagbearer race, Elvis mentioned that John Mahama is leading so far but he refused to be emphatic because he claimed he is aiming for the referee position of General Secretary and so will not comment or give an emphatic answer. Elvis Afriyie hoped that with his vast experience he will clearly win and lead the NDC to victory in the 2024 elections
