Captain Nkrabea Effah-Dartey, the principal attorney for kingpin of illicit mining (galamsey), Aisha Huang, has defended his choice to represent the troubled Chinese national.
Captain Effah-Dartey, a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, has come under fire from the public for providing legal counsel to Aisha Huang, although he maintains that his primary motivation for doing so is financial gain.
People who are accusing me of being irresponsible for supporting Aisha Huang are misinformed.
I simply work to provide for my family’s everyday needs because I have a wife, kids, and grandchildren.
He is reported as saying, “I’m protecting Aisha Huang for my daily bread,” in an article by Oyerepafmonline.com.
Asked if he would withdraw his services should the Akufo-Addo-led government appoint him, he said, “If government gives me an appointment to stop defending Aisha Huang, of course, I will stop.”
“Anytime you see me defending Aisha Huang, that indicates she has fully paid me,” he continued. I am currently being paid in full.
The attorney said, “My main problem is that I find it difficult to get access to my client,” as he expressed anxiety about having access to his client. I believe she is not being treated fairly by the state.
He however, expressed confidence that the allegations brought against his client will be dropped because, in his opinion, there isn’t enough evidence to support them.
