TotalEnergies Marketing Ghana Plc commissions first ever Electric Vehicle charging unit

TotalEnergies Ghana Limited has commissioned the first ever Electric Vehicle (EV) charging unit in Ghana.

The move is to demonstrate the company’s quest to lead Africa’s energy transition agenda and support the fight against climate change and its effects on the continent.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Electric Vehicle charging unit at the TotalEnergies Liberation Road Service Station, the Senior Vice President of TotalEnergies Marketing and Services, Jeane-Phillipe Torres noted that Africa is at the heart of the company’s operations and it will continue to spearhead innovations in energy transitions, climate change and support for varied mobility.

“Africa is at the heart of Total Energies’ global strategy. The Company has been present on the continent for over 100 years and today has activities in 40 countries”, he said.

“The demand for supporting new types of mobility comes from all over the continent. Today, TotalEnergies’ objective is to support the development of electric charging units in countries that have a proactive approach about electric mobility. All countries can count on TotalEnergies to support them in the deployment of adapted infrastructures. We are able to respond on a case- by-case basis, thanks to our wide network of service stations throughout the territory and by relying on solid partnerships”.

He further noted Africa’s energy transition agenda needs a collaborative effort to succeed and pledged TotalEnergies’ support in achieving this target.

On improving customer experience and lives of users, the Managing Director for TotalEnergies’ Marketing Ghana PLC, Olufemi Babajide, encouraged private and public sector partnerships to accelerate new technologies to improve lives.

“Partnership with the private and public sectors is crucial for accelerating change and promoting innovation and new technologies. “

He also reiterated the company’s resolve to be the world leader in energy transitions and to achieve a net-zero emission by 2050.

“Today’s event reflects our company, TotalEnergies’ ambition to be a world-class player in the energy transition and to get to net zero by 2050, together with society. The introduction of this EV Charging Unit at our service station is one of the many innovations our company has deployed in Ghana to help address the global climate agenda.”

The EV charging unit which is available at the TotalEnergies’ Liberation Road Service Station is the first of its kind in Ghana.

The company has also pledged to establish more of such stations in Ghana. Aside one driving to charge his/her car, the company has also provided free Wi-Fi at selected stations to serve customers better. 

With the advent of clean fuel and climate change campaigns to save the environment, Electric Vehicles will come in handy to help Ghana achieve its climate change agenda.
