A man of God named Pastor Owusu Michael shared his life experience about how he became addicted to smoking, drinking alcohol and taking in drugs when he was 16 years old. According to the pastor, he was staying with his single mother and he is the eldest his parents. He was calm person and very intelligent at school but when he was transferred to a new school at Asokwa, he involved himself with bad friends who are also into drugs.
His friends introduced him to the smoking of cigarettes and drink alcohol when he was in his second year in Junior High School. Although he was among the brilliant kids in the school at that time due to bad influence from his friends, he stopped learning and always followed his friends to a Ghetto. One day, he took a weed seed to mix it with his cream but he chewed it.
The pastor said he started feeling a burning sensation in his head and almost got a mental illness. His mother helped him and prayed hard for him till he got his normal senses. After he completed school his mother sent him to Senior high school to further his education, a few days later he got a friend who also smoked weed.
The friend taught him how to smoke weed and also take drugs at the age of 16. Pastor Michael added that he became a stubborn student at school but was also brilliant, all the teachers like him because of his academic excellence. He became addicted to smoking weed and the drugs and he never spent a day without smoking.
He disclosed that he smoked before he goes to class on daily basis, all the students were aware of his addiction but they couldn’t do anything to help him. Pastor Michael revealed that his mother had no idea that he was addicted to drugs and even smoked because she never pay him a visit at the boarding house.
One day his mother came to the school to discover his addiction, she was also informed that he has not been paying his school fees. The pastor said his mother told the teachers to discipline him but it was too late for him to change. Pastor Michael went on to say that after he completed school, he continue to take drugs and also smoked the weed.
One of his friends died due to drug addiction but he couldn’t stop his behavior. His worries was that he used to steal his mother’s money to buy drugs, his mother even became fed up with his lifestyle. A few months later he had a dream about an anonymous voice who asked him why he is causing harm to his body.
The unknown voice gave him a warning to stop his addiction, repent and start worshipping God. The pastor concluded that he informed his mother about the dream he had, and she then sent him to a church for prayers. He repented and started preaching the word of God.
