Disability Education has been one that has not seen many changes in the past years.
Inclusive education has been entrenched in the UN charter in which Ghana is involved.
A revelation from the 2022 Auditor General’s Report on the performance of special education in Ghana.
The report shows that about 3% of Ghanaians are disabled, comprising 100,000 children aged 4-16. Some 16,000 are out of school.
Very worrying situation. Now the point is, the current government has been bragging about the impact they’ve had on education. Why not been felt in all areas?
Essentially, the reports claimed that From 2015 to 2020, Parliament approved GH$59.2 million for special education. Out of the approved amount, only GH$38 million (64.54%) was released.
This gives the impression that monies have gone uncounted.
So sad to see this allegation coming out in a very crucial sector.
Further, in 2020, out of GHC 12.8 million approved budget, only GHC 4 million (32%) was released.
Unfortunately, only 32 percent of the funds released to the special education area under the education sector is unacceptable.
Sadly, these funds are not given entirely as reported by the AG.
Questions are being asked where do those monies go to?
The answers are yet to be supplied.
