Chelsea’s appointment of ex Brighton And Hove Albion coach Graham Potter, will see him become the 9th coach appointed to head the West London club in the last ten years.
Graham Potter’s football philosophy is not that different from what ex coach Thomas Tuchel adopted at the club.
At Brighton, Potter’s favourite system was a 3-4-3 formation and sometimes a 3-4-1-2 formation that was used to penetrate low blocks.
The difference between the two coaches is that whereas Tuchel preferred to overload the wide areas, Potter uses half spaces and line breaking passes to attack while maintaining a solid defense.
According to sources, Potter will maintain the current defensive structure of the team but might make alterations in the midfield and attack.
That is, a back four of Mendy, Thiago Silva, Koulibaly, Azpilicueta/Chalobah. Reece James and Cucurella will be the wingbacks.
In the midfield, Jorginho will be a constant starter while Kovacic and Gallagher will be rotated.
In attack, Kai Havertz and Mount will fight for the same position, where as Aubameyang and Sterling will be the additional two players to the attack.
