Ellembelle missing excavators: 3 more found, 9 suspects apprehended

At least nine additional individuals have been apprehended in another anti-Galamsey operation launched by the police in the Western Region.

In the early hours of Friday, September 9, 2022, the police also recovered three excavators and three pump-action pistols.

According to sources, the accused included three Chinese nationals and six Ghanaians.

“The police detained nine more people and recovered three excavators and three pump action pistols in another anti-galamsey operation in the Western Region in the early hours of September 9th, 2022,” the police said in a Facebook post.

The arrest came after authorities recovered one of the missing excavators.

Meanwhile, Kwasi Bonzo, the DCE for Ellembelle, and three others were arrested for alleged obstruction about the missing excavators.

Mr. Bonzo, who was granted police investigation bail, was charged with five charges of assault, conspiracy to assault, and resisting arrest.

In a related event, five Chinese nationals were arrested on Thursday, September 8, 2022, in connection with the missing excavators in Ellembelle, Western Region.

The individuals were apprehended “during a special police operation performed during the night of September 7th and the dawn of September 8th, 2022,” according to a brief police statement posted on Facebook.
