Complainers and negative people are bad news because they wallow in their problems and fail to focus on solutions. They want people to join their pity party so that they can feel better about themselves. People often feel pressure to listen to complainers because they don’t want to be seen as callous or rude, but there’s a fine line between lending a sympathetic ear and getting sucked into their negative emotional spiral. In today’s write-up, we shall look at best or better ways of responding to negative people or behavior.
Rude customers. Treat them like royalty. Smother them with ‘kindness’. Put on a smile that looks as genuine as you can muster, and try to grant their wishes as much as possible.
If you can really treat them this well, even when they’re yelling at you, they might decide that you are all right and may become your best customers yet. This happened to me before.
Coworkers, family etc. Pretend to be a silly happy go lucky person and they will decide that their negativity isn’t going anywhere with you. Turn every one of their negative words into something positive and they will walk away exasperated.
Ignore them. If they persist, give them a huge fake silent smile, and continue to ignore them. There is no need to talk to negative people and bring negativity into your life.
Another best way to deal with them is to minimize your interaction with them or ignore their words. You will be ruined if you pay heed to their negative thoughts. They will turn you into a depressed soul if you continuously hear them crib or tell you why you cannot do something or why you are not fit to achieve anything in life.
Try and encourage them by engaging them and helping them overcome their negativity through practice. This might annoy them, or be preachy.
