Asamoah Gyan to run for MP

It is not a novelty for celebrities and legends to shift from their known careers and venture into mainstream politics.

In the United States of America, Arnold Swachniger made history when he contested for the governorship of California in 2008 and become its 38th administrative leader after his long carreer in the movies.

Elsewhere in Africa, the former Liberian international footballer, George Oppong Weah was not deterred to pursue through his political ambition to become president of Liberia after his initial attempt. He suffered a defeat, but went ahead to be elected as the president of the former war ravaged west African country, Liberia in 2018.

Prior to his election as the Liberian president, George Weah has served as senator for the Liberian legislature.

There is an ongoing discussion and lobbying in the Kwabre East Constituency of the Ashanti region to get a potential successor to succeed the current member of parliament for the constituency. Following a lot of resentments and disappointments over non performance and inaction, the constituents believes an heavy weight and influential person is needed to rally the people and catch the attention of the government for development which the constituency has been deprived of for far too long.

The likely successor is believed to be someone with not just the financial muscles but a person with the charisma to get the NPP stronghold in the limelight of development.

The likely candidate to be, is no other than one with certain leanings with the ruling NPP and the constituency is fine to have that candidate represent their constituency and would be able to champion their development.

My exclusive sources from the constituency indicates, Ghanaian soccer legend happens to be a native of Kwabere by virtue of his father being son of the land. A high lobbying and consultation within the party and and the community has been taking place to convince Asamoah Gyan to step up and declare his interest to contest the parliamentary seat of the Kwabre East, as they believed he has the capacity and charismatic stature to win and bring more attention for development for the municipality which is fast becoming metropolitan.

Although it is not conclusive to admit at this point that the soccer “Baby Jet ” is the ultimate one to contest the Kwabre East parliamentary, there are several other people who have expressed interest to challenge the current member of parliament Hon Fransica Oteng, who doubles as the deputy minister for Women, children and social protection ministry.

Perhaps the soccer ‘Baby Jet’ might be influenced and be inspired by his mentor, the Liberian president, George Oppong Weah who has dared the odds and went ahead to become a national leader for his country after he retired from active football.

Asamoah Gyan is one of Ghana’s greatest players and is said to be the most scorer of goals in the history of the west African nation. He recently expressed interest to be given a call up to to national team, the Black Stars ahead of the FIFA world cup in Qatar in November this year.

Do you think Asamoah Gyan could be a good parliamentary material and is it a right decision for him?
