6 Things Healthy People Do Before Bed

Everyone should get up in the morning feeling fitter and healthier. Many circumstances have contributed to your inability to sleep soundly at night. Pick up these nighttime to help you sleep better.

1. They Snack – Smarter

If you’re going to have a snack before bed, choose a kiwi. According to a 2019 study from Taiwanese researchers, eating two of these fruits an hour before bed for a month increased people’ sleep duration by 13% and helped them fall asleep 35% faster. It could be the fruit’s abundant serotonin , which is connected to regular sleep cycles and helps regulate neurotransmitters in the brain, or the high concentration of antioxidant vitamins C and E.

2. Skip the Feather Pillow

Why do so many of us use the wrong sorts of pillows when a good night’s sleep is so crucial? In a study involving more than 100 participants, those who reported getting little to no sleep also mentioned that their pillows were unpleasant. One common mistake: buying a feather pillow.

Although everyone’s preference for pillow comfort varies, those who reported having trouble sleeping tended to use feather pillows the most frequently. Choose polyester and latex when looking for a new set because these two materials were shown to be more highly rated for comfort.

3. Stretch Out

Leg cramps, ugh. They hurt so much that it’s difficult to fall asleep, which can lead to insomnia. They are experienced by more than half of individuals, with women more likely to be affected, especially as they age. Stretching your hamstrings and calves each night is the answer.

According to a six-week study published in the Journal of Physiotherapy in 2020, it helps stretch tendons and muscles and can lessen the frequency and intensity of cramping. One stretch that works both muscle groups is to sit with your legs outstretched on the floor, reach for your toes, and bend your knees.

4. Pop This Med

Consider taking your low-dose aspirin at night rather than in the morning if your doctor has prescribed it to lower your risk of heart attack or stroke. The morning has been discovered to be the period when the most heart attacks occur, presumably because platelet activity is at its highest then (which increases clotting).

A study involving almost 300 people found that taking aspirin before bed resulted in lower morning platelet activity, which may be advantageous for your heart. The study’s findings were presented at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions in 2020. (Of course, before making any changes, consult your doctor.)

5. Go for “Pink” Noise

The faucet that leaks. a clock’s ticking sound. All of these minute noises have the potential to irritate and make you gasp. Pink noise might be a better option than white noise if you’re trying to drown out noise. Pink noise, as opposed to white noise, which consists of background noise with a variety of frequencies, is distinguished by sounds that have a constant lower frequency. Try to visualize the rain or the buzz of a fan. Have you already relaxed?

Listening to pink noise during the night helped regulate brain waves so people stayed in the restful phase of sleep longer.

6. Go Running

You’ve heard it said that you shouldn’t go to the gym in the evening because doing so will leave you wired and unable to sleep. The good news is that exercising whenever you can improves your quality of sleep, even the same night, according to National Sleep Foundation research from 2019. The study discovered that there were no variations in the quality of sleep among those who exercised vigorously within four hours of going to bed.
