Ghana is broke, take hard decisions – Joe Jackson charges government

Director of Operations at Dalex Finance, Mr Joe Jackson says he is surprised the incidence of identity fraud still persist on Government payroll despite the number of times public sector workers are audited before they received the salaries.

The issue of identity fraud on government payroll has been an age-old problem, however the current administration has introduced a number of measures a biometric system to nib it in the bud.

Despite these efforts, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has recently expressed shock over the extent of fraud on government payroll.

Speaking at the recently held Internal Auditors Conference in Accra, Dr Bawumia disclosed that about 148,000 Ghost names have been uncovered in the latest biometric audit of public sector workers on government payroll.

He says the Ghost names discovered did not match any Ghana card, adding that 533 people were also discovered to have triple identities, and in some cases three accounts on government payroll.

Reacting to this, Mr Jackson, In a tweet Mr Jackson says “I agree that Ghana Card/ biometrics cannot solve the ‘Ghost Names’ problem. We have had multiple biometric audits, and each month, heads of public depts validate each person on the payroll… How can there still be Ghost names on the Govt payroll?”
