Dr. Kwabena Duffour, a candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer position, said he is unconcerned by criticism and derision because he is determined to assist the weak through the Ahotor Project he is leading.
He claimed that due to his nature, he is unable to respond to his enemies in kind and will instead continue to support the underprivileged through his donations. Dr. Duffour was addressing the media on August 31 in response to Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the general secretary of the NDC, advising against personalizing the project.
On the sidelines of the party’s 2nd Annual Lawyers Conference, Mr. Asiedu Nketia told journalists, “If Dr. Duffour intends to make this donation to the party a genuine donation, he should be prepared to pass through the proper channels.”
However, Dr. Duffour, a former governor of the Bank of Ghana, claimed that he was driven to support the weak through the Ahotor Project in order to strengthen both the party and the nation as a whole.
He declared, “No amount of abuse [and] attacks will deter me from what I want to do for you. Even after serving Ghana for four years, the former finance minister claimed, he refused to accept his ex gratia. He reaffirmed to everyone that he began his in 1984 and will not use the Ahotor Project for financial advantage, as some have claimed.
“I feel in me that I should help people and I am helping. According to reports, Dr. Duffour visited a few Ashanti Region constituencies secretly to give money to NDC members. The national executives of the party have accused him of personalizing the project.
