In an effort to “clean up” the broken image of the judiciary, Mahama has promised that the next NDC government will form a Constitution Review Commission and this commission will perhaps stop political appointments. It has been revealed that the Late Former President, John Evans Atta-Mills set up an extra-legal body called the Constitution Review Commission (CRC) to decrassify provisions that hinder the growth of our legal development.
However, John Evans Atta Mills met his untimely death and as such could not appoint some people to this commission. Krobea Kwabena Asante wrote; Per the principle of collective responsibility, Mr. Mahama who was then Vice President when the CRC was inaugurated should have just set up the five-member implementation committee to facilitate the process of amending the 1992 Constitution when he took over the baton after the demise of John Evans Atta Mills.
It turns out that Mahama did not appoint or continue the legacy of John Evans Atta Mills as he should have done.
“Sadly, he didn’t do that and the current Minister of Parliamentary Affairs (Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu)has set up a committee to initiate a similar project which includes one of the best NDC legal brains Inusah Fuseini as Mills did by Akenten Appiah-Menka in the CRC list.”, Krobea Kwabena Asante wrote.
Krobea is now wondering why Mahama wants to backtrack the progress with this promise. He wondered about the obstacle that prevented Mahama from doing that when he was President. Krobea Kwabena Asante advised the Former President to just cancel the thought of becoming President. Because Mahama just wants to do that to appeal to the conscience of the populace but with this fact made bare, he will have to think about another promise.
“Now, Mahama says he will make sure the CRC is implemented when he becomes President again (Perish that thought). What prevented him from doing that as President then?”
