This week has seen a lot of conversation around certain comments made by Akwasi Addai Odike. Odike made certain comments that the Asanteman Council felt was offensive. Odike was banished from Kumasi and the station where he made those comments temporarily closed down. Well, Lawyer Maurice Ampaw has been speaking regarding that issue.
According to Maurice Ampaw, Odike disrespected the Asante overlord. He noted that Odike has failed and begs for money. Interestingly, Maurice mentioned that Odike has even begged from him before. He wondered where Odike had the guts to speak about Otumfuo in that manner. Maurice Ampaw paid tributes to Otumfuo and stated that he is above all other peers in the country. He boldly stated that when it comes to being a president, the Otumfuo is the only one who can endorse Presidential candidates and bless them to win elections.
“Otumfuo speaks with divine rights and needs to be respected. Aside Queen Elizabeth, Otumfuo Is the Next Powerful Ruler in the whole world. Otumfuo is the most revered king in Ghana. I have been to a lot of places and I can confirm that he is the greatest king in Ghana” Maurice Ampaw said. Lawyer Ampaw said whether Odike likes it or not he must apologize to the Asantehene.
Interestingly, a lawyer like Maurice should have known better. Some of his words were harsh and unprintable as he sought to elevate the Asante overlord over others in the country. Yes, no one should show disrespect to traditional leaders but for a renowned lawyer like Maurice Ampaw to use harsh words against other ethnic groups and elevate one above the others is simply below the belt.
