Brief History of Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong Ex-Chief Executive Officer of GNPC

The renowned Business Executive and Consultant is a holder of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Master of Business Administration from the University of Ghana Business School. Dr. Sarpong is also a holder of Master of Accountancy and PhD in Industrial and Business Studies from the University of Glasgow and University of Warwick respectively. 

In the religious arena, he obtained a Master of Arts in Ministry from the Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon. 

Professionally, Dr. Sarpong is a holder of Chartered Accountancy and a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK; and the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG).

The Kumasi Asante Kotoko Executive Chairman initially served as the Deputy Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery, and further rose to become the ‘s Managing Director in 2007, under the leadership of John Agyekum Kufuor. 

He further served as the Chief Executive Officer of The Global Haulage Group, and then the Board Chairman of Imperial General Assurance Limited and The Royal Bank, Ghana. 

And in January 2022, he received his appointment as the Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA). 

Prior to that, Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong was serving was the Acting Chief Executive Officer of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC). 

Meanwhile, the experienced Chartered Accountant started his career journey as an Accountant (Assistant) at the Meat Marketing Board in 1979. 

A year later, he received an appointment to work as the Deputy Chief Accountant at Ghana Food Distribution Corporation. K.K Sarpong was subsequently promoted to become the Corporation’s Chief Accountant, and finally its Manager.

Among the scholarships and awards he has received so far include:

World Bank Scholarship (1990-1991), Commonwealth Scholarship (1987-1990), Glasgow Graduate Scholarship (1990) and the Amegashie Prize in Accounting (UGBS, 1978). 

He is also a recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to Public Service Award by the Africa Public Sector Conference & Awards. 

K.K Sarpong has also been honoured with Doctor of Letters and Doctor of Science by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and University of Mines, Tarkwa respectively.
