22/23 Premier League Team Of The Week -4: De Gea In Post; Firmino, Haaland & Sterling As Forwards

The fourth week of the 2022-23 Premier League season – and the quest for a Team of the Week based on players’ performances, here is Week 4 team based on highest scored statistics.

Goalkeeper

David De Gea (Manchester United)

With a solid goalkeeping display that denied Southampton on 4 occasions this week against Bruno Fernandes’s lone goal, the Spaniard was named in the goal post after recording his first clean sheet of the season.

Defenders

Thiago Silva (Chelsea)

An early red card placed Chelsea under huge pressure against Leicester City, the Brazilian skipper’s defensive mechanism was very helpful – made the most tackles of 5, clearances and aerial duels (6) to defend the ‘Blues’ seal on 2-1 victory.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

Balanced the defence and attacking perspectives – getting on the score-sheet while maintaining a clean sheet as they ripped Bournemouth apart, the duo’s efforts were recognised.

Diogo Dalot (Manchester United)

Set up Bruno Fernandes’s lone goal alongside brilliant clearance off line to deny Southampton the equalizer and the star performer, Dalot made his first appearance in the team of the week.

Midfielders

Youri Tielemans (Leicester)

The Belgian was arguably the best midfielder of the week although lost to Chelsea, his controls, and delivery – both defensive and attacking plays were remarkable placed his statistics at 6 key passes, 3 created chances, 6 tackles and 93% pass accuracy.

Bernard Silva (Manchester City)

Unexpected two-goals down by Crystal Palace, Silva’s powerful deflected strike re-established “the Cityzens” in a sensational 4-2 victory hence making his first appearance in the week. Alongside 5 key passes.

Ruben Neves (Wolves)

Placed his side in the momentum but resulted in a 1-1 draw, Neves was superb in the central defensive midfield – calmed heavy pressure of Newcastle United with 5 clearances, 5 tackles, 2 interceptions and 3 blocked shots.

Forwards

Roberto Firmino (Liverpool)

Failed to mark a goal in his previous encounters, the Brazilian geared up against Bournemouth with a brace and hat-trick assists – a splendid performance this week.

Erling Haaland (Manchester City)

First hat-trick of the season, the Norwegian was a deal breaker as they bounced back from two goals down against Crystal Palace. His strength, pace and positioning qualities played a huge role.

Raheem Sterling (Chelsea)

Recorded a brace as his first goal for Chelsea that thrive against Leicester City, Sterling made his first appearance in the team of week paired with Haaland and Firmino as the top three forwards.

Substitutes: Armel Bella-kotchap, Reece James, James Ward-Prowse, Pascal GroB, Martin Odegaard, Luiz Diaz, Harry Kane.
