The founder and the first president of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, once said; “change; if denied, or too long delayed, violence will break out here and there. It is not that men planned or willed it, but it is their accumulated grievances, that shall break out with volcanic fury”.
The accumulated grievance Dr. Nkrumah talked about here, refers to the citizen’s continues dissatisfaction with their government’s work policies and mismanagement; leading to poor living conditions, high cost of living, lack of developments, no jobs, violation of laws and many more.
These grievance; according to Dr. Nkrumah’s statement, if not properly addressed, will eventually ‘unleash the devil’ in the youth, and if care is not taken, situations will become uncontrollable for the government and the security to handle.
As you may all agree with me, there are many terrible Implications of accumulated grievances, but it all starts with violence break-out from the suffering youth.
Most of the world’s most bloodiest violence and civil wars were caused by bad governance, corrupt leaders, human rights violations, Poverty in the country, no developments, lack of jobs for the youth and many more.
Now; If these powerful comments from Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, cannot be named as the greatest prophesy in Ghana, what else can we call it?
Analyzing the state of the Ghanaian’s economy, and living conditions from all the previous governments under the Fourth Republic of Ghana, we cant say anything else; but to conclude, that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was actually referring to a government era…and that in my view is today’s Nana Addo-Bawumia era.
There is no doubt about that, because even though some violence broke out in the past governments, they weren’t as serious, as what is being witnessed under the Nana Addo-Bawumia led administration.
It is only in this government, that the nation is experiencing the continuous acts of chasing Members of Parliament from their constituencies, by angry youth.
We saw in the the case of the ruling New Patriotic Party’s MP for Suame Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Honorable Kyei Mensah-Bonsu (who is also the Majority leader in Parliament.
According to the reports, “Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu had to be escorted by security personnel, into his car after some irate youth hooted at him, and chased him away from his constituency”.
Today, we have once again heard another chase-out story; where the Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency, also in the Ashanti Region, was chased out from his constituency by residents, of certain communities in the Ashanti Region, while being armed with a machete.
When we as a country continues to see more machete chase-out, then we know that, the ‘days of doom gradually approaches. it may not be today…but in the future, the accumulated grievances in the yourth, will surely erupt like a volcanic fury, and our politicians may not be able to visit their constituencies again.
