EC Dares Asiedu Nketia Over ‘Juju’

The Electoral Commission (EC) has challenged claims by the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, that the Chairperson of the Commission brought some spiritualists to cast demons during an IPAC meeting.

According to the NDC chief scribe, the EC during a meeting, led by its Chairperson, Jean Mensa, engaged the services of some spiritualists to undertake an exorcism, with infamous incantation by some spiritualists brought to the meeting.

He was speaking on the Kumasi-based OTEC FM last Friday, explaining why the NDC had boycotted IPAC (Inter-Party Advisory Committee) meetings.

But the EC, in a statement issued yesterday, slammed the statement, describing it as “untrue” and daring Mr. Asiedu Nketia to produce evidence.

“The attention of the Electoral Commission has been drawn to a statement made by Mr. Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of the NDC, to the effect that the Chairperson of the Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensa, brought spiritualists to an IPAC meeting to cast out demons,” the statement indicated.

It continued, “For the information of the general public, this is untrue. It never occurred. IPAC meetings are meant to discuss issues relating to Ghana’s electoral system.”

It added that “this is exactly what occurs there. IPAC meetings are attended by political parties, civil society and development partners.”

“We state categorically that Mr. Nketia’s assertion is not true, and we challenge him to prove it,” the EC statement concluded.

The opposition NDC, which is at loggerheads with the EC Chairperson, has since April 2021 refused to attend meetings of IPAC that are used to discuss matters relating to the electoral system, reforms to the electoral process.
