Nana Addo has finally been told by a top Joy News Journalist, Araba Koomson, to end giving long speeches and show action. According to her, the President has two more years before his term expires but there is nothing to show for the various promises he made to Ghanaians, especially the promise about galamsey. Araba Koomson explained that Ghanaians have not forgotten all what he said about how he intends to fight galamsey. She added that Ghanaians have not forgotten about the amount of money that has been pumped into fighting galamsey.
She asked the President and Ghanaians to tell and update Ghanaians on the current stage he has reached in the fight against “galamsey”. How many has he prosecuted? And how many people have been arrested? She admitted that some people have illegally defied the orders of the President but according to her, that must not stop the President from punishing them.
“You have failed woefully. How many people have been arrested? How many have been prosecuted? We should receive this update. Because all we see are dirty rivers. This government has sunk money into the fight against galamsey. There is little to show for it. But the government has a duty to enforce the law. Mr. President, you have two years for your tenure to expire. Time is on your side to stop this menace We remember all that you said about galamsey. But what is there to show for it? What we need is facta non verba”, she explained.
Aside from this promise, there are other promises which the government has not fulfilled. Even in six years, the government has not been able to fulfill these promises, how much more in two years? It is literally impossible for the government to do anything now considering how bad the economy has become. In the last two years to come, all that the government will focus on is solving the economic problems we are facing.
