Johnson Asiedu Nketia, general secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared that the party needs the support of the Ashanti Region in order to win the presidency.
He claims that any Ghanaian political party that makes fun of Ashanti will inevitably fail to gain widespread support.
On Friday, August 19, Asiedu Nketia blamed the NDC’s loss of previous presidential elections on its inability to mobilize more voters in the Ashanti Region during an appearance on the ‘Dwabrem’ show on Kumasi’s OTEC 102.9 Fm.
” NDC can’t win in Ashanti, they have little chance of winning nationally.
According to him, “the percentage that the NDC got in the Ashanti area was low leading to our defeat” is easily discernible in the data from the 2022 polls.
What’s more, “It doesn’t matter how you feel about the people of the Ashanti region, the fact is that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could not have been elected to office in this country without their tremendous support.
It’s impossible, as evidenced by the fact that the Ashanti area alone was responsible for a large portion of the NPP’s 2016 general election victory (and, I assume, the NDC’s as well).
Dr. Cash, the show’s host, was told by the NDC top scribe, “I can thus claim that Ashanti Region is the heart of all political parties in the country.”
He said the NDC will now put more effort into the Ashanti area in the hopes of gaining more support there in the upcoming elections.
