Although campaign periods have not started yet, tactical Presidential hopefuls are trying their possible best to get themselves familiarized with the grassroots members by attending all occasions that gather thousands of Ghanaians. This is a very tactical move since if you choose to sit down and wait to begin campaigning the moment when the Electoral Commission announces or gives permission, then you will be found lagging behind.
It is for this reason that it came as no shock or surprise when two strong Presidential Hopefuls, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Former President John Dramani Mahama stormed the Ga Mashie populace to celebrate the Homowo festival with the people. Even after spending some quality time with the people over the weekend, Mahama capitalized on that moment to congratulate the people once again on his official Facebook page. This was his message to the people.
“Congratulations to the people of Ga Mashie on their Homowo celebration over the weekend”
This move by Mahama can be described as a move of populism. He wants to increase his popularity amongst Ghanaians irrespective of the fact that he is the most marketable candidate in the National Democratic Congress. Anyways, if he really went to the place to familiarizeze himself with the township, he most certainly has achieved it since looking through the photos he shared on social media, it could be seent that he was really received well by the communtity. The people really mobbed him and the atmosphere looked like an atmosphere of campaign.
Also, analyzing the election results from the previous year, Mahama can gain a huge percentage of the votes if he works on the typical Ga communities in the Greater Accra region. It is worthnoting that the National Democratic Congress led by Mahama in the 2020 election won the Greater Accra region hads down and also won and reclaimed more Parliamentary seats from the New Patriotic Party.
