NDC To Invade Ashanti Region Next Week With A Battalion; Check Reasons

The General Secretary of the opposition NDC has served notice that the party will be invading the Ashanti and Eastern regions in the coming weeks for a very important exercise.

Speaking on Mpu ne Mpu show on UTV monitored by CitizenOne this morning Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia aka General Mosquito said the party has started its internal elections since last week. He said unlike previously where the party instructed all constituencies to finish their branch elections within two weeks, this time around the NDC has learnt its lessons. He said the party now considers the branches as the most important structures of the party on which all other structures are built.

He added that two months have been allocated for the branch elections alone and it has been structured in zone. Mr. Nketia stated that national executives and regional executives are now supervising branch elections. He told the host Afia Pokuaa that the five Northern and regions 3 Bono regions have finshed conducting their branch elections. This week will see to it that Greater Accra, Central, Western, Western North, Volta and Oti will complete theirs according to the NDC chief scribe. The party will then channel its energy to Ashanti and Eastern regions in the next two to three weeks.

He said NDC is placing much interest in the two regions because their intelligence has it that people want to plant their agents there. In addition, some constituency and regional aspirants are trying to frustrate the system to their favour.

We have finished with the northern and middle belt. Currently we are rounding up with Volta, Oti, Greater Accra, Central, Western and Western North regions. When we are then, next week we will invade Ashanti region with all our energy. I chose to them the battalion. All past appointees, lawyers, chief directors and national executives will be in Ashanti region. We will ensure the branch elections are conducted in a free and fair manner and we will elect competent leaders to head the branches. Then our last task will be to Eastern region. If we are able to finish the branch elections on time, the rest can be done within few months. In fact we are looking at finishing everything national congress before the year runs out”, Asiedu Nketia stated.

On the voter registration exercise, Asiedu Nketia explained why the party is against the use of Ghana Card as the sole identification tool. He said in principle NDC is not against the use of Ghana Card for anything. But the problem has to do with the number of people who have the Ghana Card. He added that in the horse’s own mouth, NIA has disclosed that it cannot issue a Ghana card to every Ghanaian in the next 3 years. This is enough justification that we cannot use the Ghana Card as the sole identification tool.
