Any Government That Finds Reshuffling Of Ministers Repugnant Has Something To Hide – Dr. Amoako Baah

It was reported few hours ago about how the Akufo-Addo led government is receiving tons of criticism from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and some concerned citizens of the country. These concerned citizens and the opposition NDC are questioning the competence level of some government appointees occupying ministerial roles in the President Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government. Most citizens and some bigwigs in the NDC have boldly asked the President, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo to relieve some under performing ministers from their post or better still reschuffle them to other ministries where they can perform.

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo shared his thoughts about the matter during an interview with Star FM in Tamale North yesterday, August 8th, 2022. Speaking on the matter of reshuffling or dismissal of some incompetent ministers in his administration which has attracted a lot of public interest, the President stated emphatically without mincing his words that he will not heed to those calls especially from the opposition NDC. The President of the Republic believes it is an attempt or plan the NDC are orchestrating in other to destabilize his government. The President, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo in his own words during the interview said.

“The constant calls from the opposition NDC comes for all kinds of reasons; one of the reasons is an attempt to destabilize the government. There are people who are also looking for jobs.”

The latest person to share his opinion on the subject of public interest is Dr. Amoako Baah Richard, who is a political science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Dr. Amoako Baah is of the view that President Akufo-Addo might be wrong with his response to the matter. The political science lecturer however believes that the Akufo-Addo government might be hiding some secrets from Ghanaians hence his failure to enforce a reshuffling of some incompetent ministers.

Dr. Amoako Baah in general didn’t just single out President Akufo-Addo and the NPP of having some secrets to hide but also explained that any government that finds a reshuffling of incompetent ministers repugnant and offensive might be having many secrets to hide themselves. He further edged the President to proceed to the many calls from Ghanaians and the Opposition NDC and do the right thing for the country and the citizens. Speaking on Joy FM Top Story program on Monday, August 8th, 2022, the political science lecturer in his own words stated;

“The fact that a political party that brought President Akufo-Addo to power doesn’t mean that when you win, you will do whatever that you want”.

Dr. Amoako Baah however acknowledged that it is up to the President to reshuffle his ministers or do otherwise. However, he believes sternly that the Akufo-Addo led government have a mandate to fulfill and that task is to change the state of the economy.

“Any government in this world that finds it distasteful and repugnant to reshuffle ministers has too many secrets hence the reasons why they don’t want new eyes and new ears. This is because they know for a fact that the current people in those ministries appointed knows everything about the game and it’s safer to let them be at post and play and keeps it going. It is part of the plan and the equation”.

“How are you going to do that? …Talk to Parliamentarians, they will tell you Common Fund never go there. How are they going to be assessed? You were never given the money you needed to work so based on what are you going to decide competence to ensure that you fire them,” he asked.

On the matter of reshuffling, the President reiterated that he is above satisfied with the performances of those under fire ministers and for that matter, he doesn’t see any legitimate reason why he should do that. He also made it known that he has been checking on them on a regular basis to make sure they are doing and delivering as Ghanaians expect from them.

He graded his ministers performances and work so far as excellent and outstanding and doesn’t see any logic in reshuffling ministers who are performing so well. He later concluded by assuring the opposition NDC and some concerned citizens never to dream of any reshuffling any time soon. In his own words, he said;

“Many of these ministers for me have done an outstanding work in their various ministries. Their output has been considerable, and that is what I look at. If indeed their performances are meeting expectations, then I don’t have any strong and legitimate reasons to heed to any call from people about reshuffling”. The President Akufo-Addo concluded.

One person who has also engaged himself with this conversation is the President’s very own direct cousin, the Founder and President of Danquah Institute, Gabby Otchere Darko. He earlier on yesterday during an interview on Accra based Citi News states that the President will undertake actions if and only when situations on the grounds doesn’t actually reflects the under fire ministers performances. He reteirated that the President wouldn’t hesitate to fire or reshuffle a minister if he or she isn’t performing to expectations. He calls on Ghanaians to exercise a leap of faith for these ministers. In his own words, he stated;

“On the ministerial reshuffle calls from citizens, it should be understood that it is the prerogative of the President. The President is not quick to reshuffle. But I believe, if, in his wisdom, he sees that there’s a need to reshuffle, then why not ? I’m very positive he will make the right decision, he concluded.
