On Thursday, August 4, 2022, Ghanaians marked the day with Founders’ Day and there was a declaration of a public holiday to that effect.
It should be noted that the holiday used to fall on September 21st and the first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was usually celebrated for his awesome achievements. The NPP government after taking office, changed Founder’s Day to Founders’ day to reflect the efforts of other Founding fathers the big six.
The August 4 Founders’ Day seeks to celebrate Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Dr. J.B.Danquah, Ako Adjei, Obetsebi Lamptey, Ofori Atta, and Edward Akuffo Addo for their role in providing the country with the independence.
TV3’s Johnny Hughes has made some wild revelations about the whole thing about the Founders’ Day. In the first place, he asked why the country is a confused one considering how we previously celebrated only the birthday of the first president Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
He noted that historians are in the country but they are quiet on this. Johnny expressed displeasure in making a mistake over many years when the historians know the truth.
He also mentioned that the concept of declaring holidays should be looked at more critically due to the repercussions faced by the state.
According to Johnny Hughes, the country loses about Ghana Cedis 70 million on each holiday but the country still likes celebrating Holidays without factoring in the amount lost on each of these special days.
Johnny expressed the fact that the country attaches political lenses to all discussions and that was not how Dr. Kwame Nkrumah governed.
