Accra Hearts of Oak are looking at ways to improve upon last season’s performances and as part of plans to pull off massive improvement at the club, they have made public the signing of some players. The three players have been captured to revitalize various positions in the team, that is, the goalkeeping, defense and attacking department.
Goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi, defender Zakari Yakubu and attacker Junior Kaaba are the new arrivals at the rainbow club.
Eric Ofori Antwi comes into the Oak family with enviable experience having had a stint with Asante Kotoko, Inter Allies, Legon Cities and the national team. This brings to fore the volume of competition he brings on board, to battle for first choice position with Richard Atta and Richmond Ayi. From all indications last season, it was palpable that Accra Hearts of Oak needed another goalkeeper to keep the available goalkeepers on check. The three goalkeepers henceforth have three competitions to fight for and that could be a major headache for head coach Samuel Boadu to bear.
Defender Zakari Yakubu joins Accra Hearts of Oak from Division One outfit All Blacks, adding to the pool of defenders in the club. His favorite position of center back is an area where the club had few players to occupy. Mohammed Alhassan and Robert Addo Sowah used to pair but injury to the latter resulted in some changes at the back. His inclusion is timely but what is yet to be identified is the ability of Zakari Yakubu to adapt and fit in swiftly as required. How he transits from the lower side to a higher side is the bedrock for a successful tenure.
Junior Kaaba, an attacker, can only put himself together for what appears to be a hefty task at hand. He joins a team that is full of monumental expectations from front men. He will be competing Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Benjamin Yorke and others for positions and cannot be underestimated. Is only a matter of time that can vindicate his addition.
