You Will Be Surprised About The Tribe That Got Ghana’s Independence – Lawyer Obiri Boahen.

Obiri Boahen reiterated that independence was not achieved by a single tribe but all working together, though a group of six spearheaded it. But the lawyer clearly stated that the Bono tribe was the main people that got Ghana’s independence. Bono State (or Bonoman) was a trading state created by the Bono people, located in what is now southern Ghana. It was founded sometime around the eleventh century.

Bonoman was a medieval Akan kingdom in what is now Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo regions, named after the Bono and Ahafo) and Eastern Ivory Coast. It is generally accepted as the origin of the subgroups of the Akan people who migrated out of the state at various times to create new Akan states in search of gold.

The gold trade, which started to boom in Bono as early as the 12th century, was the genesis of Akan power and wealth in the region, beginning in the Middle Ages. Various aspects of Akan culture stem from the Bono state, the umbrella used for the kings, the swords of the nation, the stools, goldsmithing, blacksmithing, Kente Cloth weaving, and goldweighing. This all helped Ghana achieve independence, he added. Follow me for more updates.
