‘Muslim Flag Bearer’ Comment Was A Joke-Justin Kodua

The newly elected General Secretary for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has broken the internet with a comment he made at the NPP thanksgiving ceremony at Kanda.

The newly elected executives of the party organised a thanksgiving ceremony at the national mosque on Friday. The executives took turns to give words of appreciation to the gathering as well as suggesting way forward for the party.

In his submission the national Nasara Coordinator of the party Aziz Haruna Futa made a comment to the effect that, it was time the party chooses a Muslim flag bearer with a Christian running mate.

“The NPP has come far. The party which was originally called the Northern People’s Party (NPP) has a blend of both Christians and Muslims leading the party in diverse ways. The only position which has never been held by a muslim so far is the flag beareship position. It is my candid view that it is time the NPP show its love by selecting a Muslim to lead the party into election 2024 with a Christian as running mate”, Futa stated.

His comments did not go down well with some of the executives and party faithfuls around.

In his address, the General Secretary Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong described his colleagues comment as joke. He said as national leaders, it was wrong to take sides. He added that the party under his leadership will remain neutral and treat all aspirants equally.

“I want to take this opportunity to correct what my colleague Futa said. As a matter of fact, NPP is a party for all irrespective of ones religious, tribal, educational or ethnic background. It is therefore wrong for an executive member to make the suggestion my brother Futa made. I encourage you all to forgive him because it was a joke”, Justin stated.

The race to NPP flag bearer was between Alan Kyerematen and Dr. Bawumia, a Christian and Muslim respectively. The comment of Futa definitely was in support of Dr. Bawumia.

However there have been allegation that Justin Kodua is an Alan boy.

The introduction of Hon. Kennedy Agyapong however seems to be doing some magic. Research suggest that he can overtake both Alan and Bawumia to become the next NPP flag bearer.

He did not support any of the aspirants who contested in the national executives election publicly. But he declared his hatred for John Boadu and mounted a strong campaign against him till he lost to Justin in the recent delegates conference.
