Politics they say has everything to do with our lives. The decisions that these politicians make, do affect us in many very important ways. Their ideas also reflect the deepest convictions about ourselves, and our country as a whole.
If indeed politics is a game people play, and aim at wining or defeating their opponents; why then do people engage in types political rivalries, that leads to fights, clashes, or ‘beefs’?
Experts have explained that, political rivalry comes when people run for the same political office; and that, the beefs, clashes or fights comes in when each candidate is trying to earn the exclusive affection from the electorate.
These includes saying things or using words to win political points, at the same time damaging the image of the political opponents.
In Ghana, politics cannot be mentioned without political beefs or clashes.
Since the beginning of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, the Country has seen many heated political beefs and heavy clashes; some leading to death.
About one and half years to another major elections(election 2024), some current trends and observations about the two top presidential hopefuls, John Dramani Mahama, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that, sooner or later, another ‘big Clash’ will begin between them.
The first time a clash was witnessed between these two, was prior to election 2016 and 2020; when John Mahama was contesting the presidential elections for the NDC, whiles Dr. Bawumia was also going as a running mate for Nana Addo and the NPP.
John Dramani Mahama was a former Vice President, a former President of Ghana, and the former flagbearer of the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC); whiles Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the current Vice President of Ghana; and also the aspiring Presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Whiles John Mahama; after serving only one term in office as president, is aspiring to contest again come 2024 to complete his second term, Vice President Dr. Bawumia; who is currently serving his second term as a vice President, is also determine to lead the ruling NPP, to retain power, in what is termed ‘breaking the 8’.
Whereas Vice President Dr. Bawumia is coming from Tamale in the Northern Region Of Ghana, Former President John Mahama is from the Savannah Region of northern Ghana.
The Northern Regions of the countries since 1992 is known to be a strong hold of NDC, but since Dr. Bawumia came into the system, the NPP has started gaining grounds in the region.
That means when fate brings Dr. Bawumia in as the Flgbearer of the NPP, and John Mahama back as the flag bearer of the NDC, the race or journey to the Flagstaff House comes 2025, will be a real Clash in the Northern Regions of the country.
The Two ‘Northerners’, have to do all it takes to win the regions; even if that mean, using past records to damage each other’s reputation.
