Gov’t Has Procured 5 Patrol Boats To Protect Our Rivers – MLNR

In order to combat unauthorized small-scale mining, the government has acquired five patrol boats, according to Samuel Abu Jinapor, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources (galamsey). On Thursday, July 21, he declared at a press conference in Accra that the boats will monitor the Ankobra, Pra, and Birim rivers.

She stated, “I would like to announce that the government has purchased five patrol boats to monitor and safeguard our rivers. The unlawful small miners’ operations, which are harming the environment and water bodies in general, have been dealt with by the authorities.

Recently, on a concession owned by AngloGold Ashanti, some galamseyers were detained and allegedly abused by being forced to swim in mud. Recently, a mining consultant said that fourteen (14) regions had been destroyed by illegitimate mining.

Large-Scale Mining (LSM) and Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining are the two primary mining sectors in Ghana (ASM). In the ASM industry, there are three types of operations: I Legal or Licensed Small-Scale Mining; (ii) Illegal or Unregulated Mining, sometimes known as “Galamsey” locally; and (iii) Newly Established Community Mining.

The Volta and Greater Accra areas are the only two without ASM operations. “Unfortunately, all three of the ASM activity categories contribute to unchecked land degradation and water contamination.

Despite the fact that several research projects have been finished and published, none of them have specified the precise number of regions impacted by ASM operations, according to Mr. Solomon Owusu.
