The Head Coach of South Africa female national side Bayana Bayana, Desiree Ellis has expressed her view on rapid football development for women across the continent.
Speaking to Radio Gold after the CAF Women’s Legends versus Morocco Women’s Legends game, the experienced coach touched on the greater level of advancement for women’s football in Africa.
“We’ve seen the result in the competition you know, we didn’t expect the results that happened”.
But if you don’t bring your A game, that’s the possibility. But is fantastic to see that the countries are all doing their best for women’s football”, she noted.
“There are 12 teams and you underestimate at your own peril. You’ve seen them in this competition, I mean Togo did it, Cameroon”.
Ellis, spoke about new entrants to this year’s WAFCON tournament and future expectations of African Women’s football.
“If you look at the debutant, you wouldn’t have expected some of them to come here, some of the countries are not here”
“The likes of Equatorial Guinea, two times champions. The likes of Mali, they were semifinalist, it shows that the game is growing and I expects more two years from now”.
The game ended with CAF Women’s team winning by two goals to nil over their Moroccan counterpart with a brace from Cameroonian ex-striker, Gaëlle Enganamouit.
