The election legal battle between the Assin North Member of Parliament; Honorable James Gyakye Quayson; versus the Republic is still on.
Honorable Quayson, who appeared before the High Court today, was represented by his legal team Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata.
The latest information coming from the High Court has revealed that; Lawyer Tsikata, who led the embattled Assin North MP in Court today, to plead for an adjournment of a case, has won.
A report from the court; captured on citinewsroom.com revealed that, “The High Court has adjourned the hearing of criminal charges, against embattled Assin North Member of Parliament, James Gyakye Quayson, to allow for the hearing of a pending application at the Supreme Court”.
The report added that, “Lawyers for Mr. Quayson told the court; that the Supreme Court application was filed on Monday, seeking an order to quash a ruling of the High Court in respect of a witness”.
Arguing in court, Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata; the Lead for Hon. James Quayson, told the court that, his side had requested the Supreme Court to hear the application before the legal vacation”.
According to citinewsroom.com; “He (Lawyer Tsikata), said they were unable to serve the court with a certified copy of the application, because the Chief Justice was yet to give a date for its hearing”.
It added that, “Mr. Tsikata, under the circumstances, urged the court to grant the adjournment; since the outcome could have consequences on other witnesses scheduled to testify in the matter; and that, it would also serve to avoid prejudice, and ensure fairness in Mr. Quayson’s case”.
Her Ladyship Mary Maame Ekue Nsenkyire; who heard the case today said, “though she had not been shown any evidence of the application being filed, she would take Mr. Tsikata’s word for it”, Citi News added”.
The case has since been adjourned to October 18, 2022.
