Ex President John Mahama have spoken finally on the Ghana Card involvement in the election 2024.
H.E. John Mahama;
” The Electoral Commission, instead of making it easy for our citizens to take part in elections, rather takes delight in making it difficult. They appear determined to ensure the disenfranchisement of sections of our population at all costs through a misguided insistence on the use of the Ghana card as the only source of identification for a voter card”.
The above statement were some of the words Mr. Mahama expressed at the closing ceremony of a minority caucus workshop (retreat with party MPs in Ho) yesterday, Mr. Mahama touched on the sensitive issue of the Ghana Card use as the single source of identification for a voter card for the coming election 2024. This comes in days after the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC), Director of Electoral Services, Dr Serebour Quaicoe made it known in a televised interview on one of the media house that the new registration process would rely solely on the Ghana card as a base document to register new persons.
Mr. Mahama expressed his worry saying the National Identification Authority cannot claim to have covered every Ghanaian who should be registered or distributed all the cards printed to those who have been captured in their system. And have failed to distribute hundreds of thousands of cards to people who have registered.
