Accra Hearts of Oak top marksman, Afriyie Barnieh is nearing the end of his contract with the club. The striker’s contract will expire in January and the club is in talks with the player for an extension.
Barnieh had a very good season scoring very important goals for the Phobians. He was the catalyst that shot Hearts to FA cup glory. He scored a splendid goal in the final against Bechem United to help his club lift the trophy.
It is reported that the player’s current contract pays him a monthly salary of GHc1,800. Yet the player takes home a paltry GHc1,300 after all deductions have been made.
It is now reported by Wontumi Sports that, the club have offered him a new contract worth GHc5,000 a month. The player expressed love for the club but rejected the offer.
He reportedly to told the club the offer wasn’t enough and urged the board to improve on their offer. The club have therefore decided to prepare a new improved offer in the coming days in order to keep the player. Both parties are confident a deal will be completed and Barnieh will extend his contract.
An unnamed club in Sweden have also represented expressed interest in the player, but an offer reported to be around $200,000 was deemed inadequate by Hearts of Oak.
