Ghanaians Massively React As Dr. Bawumia Breaks Silence On Why Gov’t Is Going To The IMF For Bailout

The vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has finally reacted to government’s decision to visit IMF for a bailout.

Speaking at the public lecture at Accra Business School, Dr. Bawumia revealed that government really needed support to bridge the gab between balance of payments and the international capital market. He also added that government needed to stabilize the economy and restore debt sustainability.

He believes that these are the main reasons why the government under the leadership of Nana Akufo Addo is going to IMF for a bailout. He added that there wouldn’t have been any need to go to the IMF if not for the covid-19 or the Russia-Ukraine war.

“With the challenges in accessing the international capital market, balance of payments support was needed to bridge the financing gap, stabilize the economy and create space to implement structural reforms and restore debt sustainability. This is pretty the reasons Ghana had to go to the decision to the IMF” he said.
