Bawumia Brilliantly Gives 4 Reasons For Ghana Going To The IMF. Mahama Caused 2 Of Them

The Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia today gave a lecture at the Accra Business School. The lecture was to launch some new IT programmes of the Accra Business School. After the official speech on the programmes, Bawumia turned his eyes to the state of the economy. Ghana’s representative engaged IMF officials this week to strike a deal to help save Ghana from crumbling economically.

Bawumia mentioned some of the gains of the government in digitalization. He mentioned that the Akufo-Addo government has managed to create an online passport system, a system to check car insurance, Ghana card, online prepaid purchases, Online ticketing for football clubs alongside other digital advances.

According to Bawumia, Ghana has gone to the IMF for 4 reasons. Bawumia mentioned that Ghana borrowed 54 billion for Covid-19, financial clean up and energy sector charges. He noted that the finances of Ghana have been plagued by these initiatives. He interestingly said that 2 of the 4 reasons are external factors while 2 were caused by the NDC. He mentioned that Covid-19 and the Ukraine-Russian war are external reasons for going to the IMF. However, the financial clean up and the excess energy charges were caused by John Mahama.

This is interesting to know as the government has once again hit John Mahama again after being in power for 6 years. Do you agree the government has no hand in this economic mess?
