AshGold set for Division 2 after losing appeal.

Obuasi-based Ashanti Gold are reportedly on its way to the 3rd tier of Ghana football. They were found guilty after engaging in match-fixing. They were demoted to the 2nd division as punishment for their actions. The verdict was announced after months of thorough investigations, but the Miners insisted they had done nothing wrong and filed an appeal to overturn the verdict.

According to reports in the local media, the GFA’s Appeals Committee has dismissed Ashgold’s appeal and upheld the Disciplinary Committee’s decision. This confirms their participation in the national division 2 league next season. Unless they decide to go to the court of arbitration for sports, which seems unlikely to overturn the decision of the disciplinary committee.

It’s just unfortunate they have found themselves in this situation. It is good that they are being punished heavily to serve as a deterrent to others. Let’s uphold the integrity of the Ghana Premier League. It is ours. Let’s not destroy our football.
