He Was Chased By Rawlings & NDC; Real Story Behind Popular Funeral Song Abena Pinaman.

Well, oral history has it that the composer of ADWOA PINAMANG was reportedly chased by the late Jerry John Rawlings and his NDC.

Majority of Ghanaians have listened to this popular funeral song called ADWOA PINAMANG. Today, let’s educate ourselves with the real story behind this song. This was revealed by Mr Osei Oppong Brenya.

Composed and sung by Adomako Nyamekye, the song was to eulogise his late lover who died while he was in exile. The composer was a military man who was instructed by Rawlings to kill the then President of Ghana Hilla Lunan. Failure to do this, Rawlings got angry and wanted to finish him instead.

Afraid of Rawlings, Adomako Nyamekye reportedly used his songs to speak against the atrocities meted on Ghanaians by Rawlings and the NDC. His continuous criticism against Jerry John Rawlings and his party angered them the more. Allegedly, they sent some secret intelligence guys to either arrest Adomako Nyamekye and present him to Rawlings or ” Finish” him.

The plan was reportedly revealed by one of the Plotters. Adoma Nyamekye then fled out of the country to save his life. He couldn’t return till NPP came into power in 2000. Prior his return, his lover Abenaa Pinamang died and he couldn’t attend the funeral. However, he composed the funeral song entitled ABENAA PINAMANG and mailed it to be played at the funeral. The song then went viral till date.
