Gazzettenews cited that the Senator confirmed his resignation through a phone call on Monday, where he noted that Mr Tinubu should have listened to the advice of some Nigerian who suggested that he should go for a Christian running mate as he is already a Muslim.
Mr Abbo also noted that president Muhammadu Buhari chose Yemi Osinbajo instead of Tinubu in 2015, and Tinubu should have done the same in selecting a running mate.
On Sunday, Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu had presented Kashim Shettima, the former Borno State governor as his running mate, and since the announcement was made, many Nigerians had taken to different social media platforms to give reasons why Tinubu should have chosen a Christian instead of a fellow Muslim, while a host of other Nigerians supported Tinubu, citing that competence should come first before religious sentiments.
