Cutting Your Salary By 30% Will Not Solve The Issues, Rather Take This Action Immediately

Ghana is at crossroads and the future doesn’t really look so bright unless some drastic measures are taken to bring the country back. Government economic experts in locked in discussions with negotiators from the International Monetary Fund. Ghana seeks for financial bailout to cushion the economy. In the midst of all this, labor unions have also risen to demand for allowances to support them.

On Mmra Ne Abrabo Mu Nsem, Lawyer Maurice Ampaw applauded President Akufo-Addo for slashing his salary and that of his ministers by 30%. Maurice noted that even though this is commendable, it will not entirely save the country.

“President kudos but it is not enough. Cutting your salaries by 30% will not solve our problem. What we need is for you to create a ministry for monitoring and evaluation if the old one doesn’t exist to check on wastage at civil and public institutions. The problem isn’t with politicians but public and civil servants” lawyer Ampaw said

The pro NPP lawyer also explained that the CEOs, directors, procurement officers, financial heads at public and civil institutions are the ones killing the nation. He noted that wastage and corruption in heavy in those areas and needs to be checked. He averred that though politicians are also at fault, the level of corruption at public and civil institutions are unparalleled. He cited the Police institution as an example. He mentioned that about 20% of public transport services are owned by Police men.

He called for President Akufo-Addo to resurrect his monitoring and evaluation team to go and investigate some of these institutions. According to the latest Auditor General’s report, wastage or unaccounted monies have shot up from 12.8 billion cedis to over 17 billion cedis.
