Negotiations are ongoing between government dignitaries and representatives from the international monetary fund in the country’s quest to secure heavy loans. These deliberations will surely include conditionalities that will put restrictions on certain government programs and expenditures.
Scraping Nurses and teacher training allowances, downsizing minister and personal assistants, and halting recruitment are some programs that are likely to be affected. The mere thought of this brings massive discomfort to the ordinary Ghanaian.
However, corruption has been on the ascendancy in this government and the majority don’t see the reason this administration claims it’s in difficulty and needs the International Monetary Fund’s bailout when it continues to perpetuate this magnitude of corruption in a single year.Â
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has this afternoon revealed a report from the auditor generals department that seems to suggest that financial irregularities have risen from GHS12.8billion in 2020 to a whopping GHS17.4billion in 2021. This huge money is either embezzled or unaccounted for and if this menace continues how can the country see development.?
The legislator in his writeup opined that no magnitude of IMF bailout can save us if it continues this way.
