Unless there are unexpected circumstances, MyNewsGh.com can announce that Sarah Adwoa Safo, the current Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, will vacate her seat.
Since last year’s long absence from Parliament, the embattled MP and Gender Minister has not appeared before the Privileges Committee to explain it. The MP was given a Zoom link to join proceedings, but she did not show up despite the Committee’s numerous attempts to encourage her to do so. Also, she didn’t explain why she couldn’t make the event.
In response to allegations of absence leveled against them, Speaker Alban Bagbin delegated authority to the Parliamentary Privileges Committee.
Unless they provide an explanation, the three might be expelled from the House of Commons. It appears that the two males appeared and did a good job of presenting their evidence, whereas Adwoa Safo was absent.
Her dismissal is sure to spark debate in Parliament, but the majority will win out.
Dome Kwabenya MP, according to MyNewsGh.com, has major personal problems, a divorce from her most recent husband and accusations of fraud. To deal with the stress of her marriage and ill health as well as her postpartum depression, she sought out counseling.
