Ghana’s Covid-19 Support In 2020 Much Higher Than IMF Support Provided In 16 Years

Ghana’s government is said to have called on International Monetary Fund (IMF) to come and support the economy with loan to help run the affairs of the country

The government made this known to the Finance Minister on 1st July 2022 to engage the IMF for a bailout to the economic crisis

However, information according to TV3 news shows that the Government of Ghana has received more support from donor countries and partners during the crisis than any other support received from IMF

According to their research, during the Covid-19 Pandemic, Ghana received $2.6b as support to help fight or curtail the adverse effect of the pandemic when IMF from 1999 to 2015 supported the economy with $1.9b.

This has raised issues of concern to citizens as to why Ghana is going for IMF support if the Covid-19 support received is not enough to keep the economy going than going for another Financial support
