African Women Championship: Defending Champions Nigeria defeated by south Africa

Defending champions Nigeria has been defeated by South Africa in their opening group match by two goals to one in group c. It was a disappointing start for the nine times African Champions as they look forward to defending their title in Morroco. Nigeria paraded all their superstars with Barca women striker Asisat Oshoala leading the lines but the south African defence was solid and stable as they hold unto the fierce of the Nigerian attack.

Both teams find it difficult to find the back of the net in the first half as the game ended in a goalless. The South Africans came back strongly in the second half. They had more possession of the ball and created dangerous chances in the final third.

In the 60th minute, Braga women midfielder Jermaine Seoposenwe put the south Africans into the lead. Two minutes later in the 62nd minute, Hilda Magaia made it two for the away side in the match.

The Nigerians did all they could to bring the game back on equal but their effort was not enough. In the 92nd minute Atletico Madrid W forward Rasheedat Ajibade receive a pass in the box and the striker calmly finish the ball into the right bottom corner of the South African goalkeeper.

The game finished 2-1 in favour of the south African. South African too group C with 3 points plus one goal.
