Readers can recall how the NDC has constantly advised the ruling NPP government to use the IMF programme to correct the economic situation. It can be remembered that the Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta clearly debated the NDC vehemently and opposed the IMF suggestions. The Finance Minister is remembered to have also mentioned how proud Ghana is to solve the economic situation by using home-grown policies.
Honourable Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has released a letter dated 1st July 2022 to inform the good people of Ghana about Ghana’s readiness to apply for the IMF programme. The news about the IMF bailout has attracted more anger amongst the population due to the economic distress recently created by the E-levy.
Few minutes after the announcement of the government intentions to apply for an IMF bailout, the Honourable Isaac Adongo has reacted to the news of the IMF bailout. Honourable Adongo explained that the Minister of Finance was given the benefit of the doubt to address the problems in the country only for him to have failed miserably with the E-levy.
The Member of Parliament also mentioned that the lack of home-grown policies in the country would make it difficult to get an IMF programme. He also advised that the government should organise senior officials to meet with the IMF. He explained that government must gather experts and design programmes before making proposals to the IMF.
He added that government must get a complete change of the team at the Ministry of Finance because they have lost credibility before the good people of Ghana. He specifically stated that the Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta has recklessly managed the economy and must be sacked.
He also mentioned that Mr. Adu Boahen, who is currently the Minister of State in charge of Finance must also be shown the exit because of the comments that he made about the IMF programme.
Mr. Isaac Adongo also mentioned that the IMF programme is always targeted at improving the lives of the poor and this must be noted by the government. According to the Member of Parliament Isaac Adongo ,government must do away with the two people who do not have the capacity to lead the country to apply for the IMF bailout. He asked a complete exit of Ken Ofori Atta and Adu Boahen from government work.
Mr. Isaac Adongo also mentioned that the NDC told the NPP about the IMF programme but they said the NDC were naysayers. He explained that the experimental politics displayed by the NPP has failed and IMF will impose a programme if the government can not propose one.
