‘Arise Ghana’ Organizers Are “Notorious” . . . They Want To Create “Unnecessary Tension” – Former MP Fumes | Politics

Former Manhyia North NPP Member of Parliament(MP), Collins Owusu Amankwah, has expressed indignation with the behavior of the ‘Arise Ghana’ demonstrators towards the Police personnel sent to protect them.

The demonstration which saw thongs of people converge at the Obra Spot, Circle, in Accra took a chaotic turn when the demonstrators decided to use different routes despite a court order to take specific routes.

They had decided to march to the Jubilee House but the organizers of the demonstration and the protesters clashed with the Police after they refused to comply with the court order.

According to reports, the Police refused to allow them to take a different route resulting in a violent confrontation.

Some of the irate protesters hurled stones at the Police guards who also retaliated by splashing water cannons and firing tear gas to disperse them.

Discussing yesterday’s clash during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” programme, Collins Owusu Amankwah described the ‘Arise Ghana’ organizers and demonstrators as “notorious”.

“I haven’t ever seen demonstrators whose organizers are so notorious as the so-called Arise Ghana. Yes, they are notorious demonstrators,” he exclaimed.

He took with a pinch of salt accounts by the organizers after the clash that the Police were the first to throw objects at the demonstrators, therefore irking them to retaliate by pelting stones.

To Collins Owusu Amankwah, there are footages evidencing that the “Police were very patient before they decided to shoot the tear gas but the demonstrators had made up their minds to provoke them”, therefore stressing the demonstrators’ desire to march to the Jubilee House is a “strategy to create unnecessary tension, to make the country ungovernable and to create chaos”.

He questioned the logic in going to demonstrate at the Jubilee House which is the seat of government if not for the obvious reasons to paint a picture of insecurity in the nation.

“Is it the President’s jacket that is so beautiful to them that they wanted to go to Jubilee House to watch or what?” he asked.
