We Are A Very Rich Country Sitting On Gold And Oil, We Can Even Fund IMF; We Don’t Need Them

The Executive Director of Africa Educational Watch (EduWatch), Mr Kofi Asare has asserted that Ghana is a very rich country sitting on gold and oil. He believes we can even fund the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and that we don’t need them.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Monday, 28th June 2022, he wrote;

“As you go to bed, remember there is Cash ooo!

Let no one deceive you. We are a very rich country sitting on gold and oil . We can even fund IMF; we don’t need them.”

The comments of Mr. Kofi Asare, comes as a background to the hint given by Gabby Otchere-Darko that he supports Ghana going to IMF. Gabby revealed that, for 5 months, the E-Levy which was to have given us 600 million by now, has done less than 60 million.

Before Parliament approved E-Levy, the opposition NDC advised government that E-Levy may reduce peoples patronization in Mobile Money transactions hence the government should go to the IMF for loan. Government at the time said that, IMF is not an option since their condition will force government not to employ workers and other restricted conditions on the economy.

Is Ghana rich as Kofi Asare claims? Can Ghana ever give fund to the IMF of we manage our resources well? Should government go to IMF or we don’t need them las he said?
