Hearts of Oak have successfully defended their MTN FA Cup trophy this evening at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. They defeated Bechem United by 2 goals to 1. They will be representing Ghana in the Confederation Cup competition next season. It was also a befitting gift for Afriyie Barnieh who was on the score sheet himself with a deft flick over the Bechem United goalkeeper.
Bechem United opened the scoring through Emmanuel Avornyo in the dying minutes of the first half. But the phobians quickly responded with the equalizer. Caleb Amankwah scored with a stunning volley after collecting a sumptuous cross from Samuel Inkoom.
Hearts resumed the second half as the more hungry side with their incursions into the opposition half. In the 61st minute, they scored their second goal. Birthday boy Barnieh flicked the ball over the Bechem keeper to score what turned out to be the winner after another delicious cross from Gladson Awako. That’s an awesome way to celebrate your birthday on such a grand occasion. Bechem United poster boy Augustine Okrah was sent off a few minutes later after assaulting an assistant referee. He headbutted the referee and was shown a red card.
Pressure on Boadu will now reduce and he will have the peace of mind and prepare adequately for next season. Congratulations to them on retaining the trophy.
