Will Ajax be able to compete for major trophies next season?

Ajax is one of the traditional clubs in Europe. They are based in Amsterdam in the Netherlands and plays in the Dutch Eredivisie. They won the league trophy last season narrowly edging past PSV.

Ajax have already lost four first team players. Mazraoui and Gravenberch joined Bayern, David Neres has joined Benfica and Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana has joined Inter Milan. A host of other players have attracted interest from top European teams.

Manchester United are interested in both Timber and Antony. Dortmund are preparing to start talks for Sebatien Haller. Arsenal are close to agreeing a deal for center back Lisandro Martinez.

With the above developments, many people are optimistic as to whether Ajax can compete for the Eredivisie and Champions League trophies next season in case all the above mentioned players leave.

Ajax since time immemorial have been nurturing and shipping talents to major leagues in Europe. The likes of Berkamp, Rijkaard, Seedorf, Finidi George, Nwankon Kanu, Overmars amongst others.

Ajax reached the UCL semifinals in 2018-2019, beating the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus. They lost a great deal of their star performers, De Jong, De Ligt, Serginho Dest, Hakim Ziyech, Donny Van de Beek, David Neres, Ryan Babel all left Ajax in space of two seasons.

Yet Erik Ten Haag still managed to assemble a team that won the domestic league two seasons in a row. Ajax were knocked out of the UCL in the round of 16 by Benfica.

Player exodus is a trend at Ajax for a long time. They will therefore not find it difficult to rearrange a squad to compete effectively next season. The possibility of them winning the Eredivisie title is still very high, maybe they might not do so well in the UCL.
